The Swords of Great Power

"If one truth could be said about man's relationship with power, it would be that at some point power will be abused.  Proof of this truth can be made no clearer than with the sole existence of the Phaeron.  And yet, if another truth would be allowed, it would be that corrupted power is an imperfect power, and can be overcome.  Proof of this hope resides within the Ectheleon."

Ectheleon

The Ectheleon    Also called the Sword of the Angels, the Ectheleon is the mighty blade wielded by the Warrior of Light. Imbued with the elements of Water, Air, Ice and Light, the Ectheleon is a mighty sword that grants amazing power to the one that wields it.

The beauty of the Ectheleon is unparalleled as the ore and metals used to make it are unknown to this age. Its white and silver steel blend in harmony with a blue crystal to create a most balanced blade that seems to dance in the hands of its wielder. The blade is long and double edged, and has ancient runes etched along its contoured edges.

Though the Ectheleon’s blade is long and wide, it is remarkably light and nimble to wield. Both the blue crystal running through it and its runes emit a gentle blue glow when it is wielded by the Warrior of Light, but grows in intensity as it nears the Phaeron. Its hilt is beautifully crafted with two outstretched wings made of blue crystal which separates the handle and the blade.

Generation after generation for thousands of years, Warriors of Light wielding the mighty Ectheleon would be the only power strong enough to stop the evil Soldiers of Darkness.  After the defeat of the Soldier of Darkness, the Ectheleon has been laid down and not used until the next Soldier of Darkness appeared. Scholars believe this to be a symbolic gesture expressing that the mighty and heroic power of the Ectheleon will not be abused.

Phaeron

The Phaeron    The dreaded Night Blade. Throughout history, no one item has become such an icon of fear and terror than the evil Phaeron. Powerful beyond imagination, the Phaeron commands the might of the Earth, Fire, Lightning and Dark elements in a manner that is peerless in the world of magery.

Every inch of the Phaeron is a weapon in its purest sense. Riddled with spikes and horns, the hilt of the Phaeron looks as if it were a cursed union between a dragon and molten lava. The massive, curved blade of the Phaeron is as twisted and evil as the minds of those who wield it have become. The black, grey and blood-red steel that make up its intimidating form, much like the metals in the Ectheleon, are unknown.

The powerful forces at work within the Phaeron are unparalleled throughout all of Valcia. At will, the Phaeron causes a thick black swirl of fog to envelop its wielder which settles to form an intimidating Armor of Shadows that is nigh impenetrable. This armor can only be maintained while the Phaeron is in the hand of its wielder; if it is sheathed or dropped, the Armor of Shadows turns once again into a black fog and disappears into the wind.

An even deeper horror waits for those who fall victim to the evil Phaeron, as if death wasn’t tragic enough. When killed by the Phaeron, the body of its victim explodes into a fine black mist and fades into nothingness. Much to the sorrow and anguish of their loved ones, nothing of the victim is left behind. Some say there is no greater torture than for widows to never know what truly happened to their loved ones, and to forever wonder if they could somehow still be alive. Courtesy of the Phaeron, countless graves all across Valcia hold no caskets for its fallen soldiers.

It is difficult to comprehend how anyone could commit such unspeakable crimes. However, the cruel and twisted nature of the Soldiers of Darkness is believed to be caused by the Phaeron itself. Filling the mind of it's wielder with pure hatred and malice, the Phaeron has created many Soldiers of Darkness over the course of time. Men of both pure evil and those of even good intentions have all succumbed to a far more horrendous persona once their hands gripped the hilt of the Phaeron.
